About Us
Who We Are
The Friends of Caleb Smith Preserve (FCSP) is a group of concerned Long Islanders, and others who enjoy the Preserve, who joined to form a not-for-profit organization to help assure the protection and restoration, and enhance the uses and appreciation of this precious resource.
We are dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the natural environment and historical treasures of the state park preserve for the enjoyment and enlightenment of current and future generations. We accomplish this through activities which support park stewardship and resource conservation, and provide visitors with unique recreational and educational experiences which help foster a higher regard for our natural heritage, and appreciation of our natural and cultural history.
What We Do
We work in close cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the park management at the Preserve to help:
A. The conservation and preservation of the natural and wild environment
B. Maintain and improve fish, animal and bird habitats; protect the woodlands flora and fauna; and develop walking/nature trails
C. Preserve and restore historic buildings, structures, fixtures, collections and exhibits
D. Manage and operate a nature and history museum at the Preserve, open to the public
E. Develop new and innovative educational programs for the public to be offered at the Preserve
F. Carry on other related activities to support the Preserve for the benefit of the local community, residents of New York State and the general public
The Friends also engage in various fund-raising projects to further any of the foregoing activities
